Now if this was Bombay and you asked anyone who enjoys their food, where do you get the best Pani Puri? The answer you would get 9/10 times would be Elco on Hill Road in Bandra. If you scroll back a bit you will find we covered Elco a few months ago on a trip to Mumbai.
Well we sadly don't have an Elco in Dubai, so for any true Indian Chaat snack fan such as myself, it has been a few months of trying the various offerings the city has to offer in the Bur Dubai / Karama side of town. Although not bad, they didn't quite hit the spot. So I did what any true foodie does and started asking other residents for recommendations. A name that came up repeatedly, was Puranmal in Karama.
So off we went to check it out and we weren't disappointed. Obviously Puranmal isn't Elco, but it isin't that far off either. They share some of the same traits that made Elco popular back in the day. Things such as bottled water instead of tap (not a big deal in Dubai, but in India its a must), or the guys handling your food and making the snacks wearing gloves - which btw I noticed were changed between dishes are only part of it, because they have managed to get the mixture and the 'pani' part of the dish just right. Make sure you check it out if you are in the mood for some Pani Puri!
